Lithuania. Lake Alnis

Our long weekend at Lake Alnis, tucked within the beautiful Labanoras Regional Park, felt like a quiet escape into untouched Lithuanian nature. Lake Alnis itself is a serene, medium-sized lake known for its clear waters, forested shores, and peaceful atmosphere - perfect for those looking to disconnect and recharge...
We set off from Kaunas and reached the lake around midday on Friday. After parking the car, we took our time settling in, enjoying a simple lunch right on the shore with a view of the calm water stretching out before us. The stillness of the lake immediately slowed everything down. Once we were ready, we prepared the kayak and pushed off into the water.

We had brought a drone with us, which gave the experience a whole new dimension. From above, the lake revealed its full beauty - winding shorelines, patches of deep green forest. Capturing those aerial shots was unforgettable - it’s one thing to experience a place, and another to see it from the sky.

Floating gently across Lake Alnis, surrounded by dense pine forests and the quiet sounds of nature, felt almost meditative. There’s something about being on the water that shifts your perspective - everything becomes softer, calmer...

After returning from kayaking, we brought the kayak back to shore and settled everything in place before starting to prepare a bonfire for dinner. While I went to collect wood for the fire, Dianka took care of preparing the marinated meat for shashlyk...

As the fire slowly burned and the evening air became cooler, the smell of grilled meat filled the lakeside...

After a tasty dinner and some time to relax by the fire, we headed to the pier to enjoy the sunset...

We couldn’t miss the chance to fly the drone, capturing the sunset from above and getting breathtaking aerial views of the lake, the pier, and the surrounding forests glowing in the evening light...

The sky gradually turned into warm shades of orange, pink, and gold, reflecting beautifully on the calm surface of Lake Alnis. It was one of those peaceful moments when everything feels still and perfectly balanced...
The next morning started with an energizing trail run around the lake. One of the things that makes Lake Alnis even more special is the well-marked trail circling the shoreline, offering another great way to experience the area beyond the water...
The trail around the lake is approximately 10 km long, making it an ideal distance for a recreational run or an active morning walk. Running through the forest paths, with occasional views opening up to the lake, felt both refreshing and grounding. The route is easy to follow, surrounded by nature, and gives you a chance to fully appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of Labanoras Regional Park.

After completing the trail run, we finished our morning at the pier, where the cool water of Lake Alnis was impossible to resist. A refreshing swim in the lake felt like the perfect reward after 10 km of running through the forest trails...

The clear, calm water helped us cool down and fully wake up for the day ahead. After the swim, feeling recharged and hungry, we headed back to prepare breakfast and enjoy another slow morning surrounded by nature...

One of the most memorable parts of staying on the shore was waking up to the sounds of nature. Especially in the early mornings, the area around Lake Alnis was filled with birdsong, creating a peaceful natural soundtrack for the entire stay.
Birds were singing almost nonstop, making the mornings feel even more magical and connected to nature. Among all the sounds, one stood out the most - the rhythmic tapping of a woodpecker, like a little drummer hidden somewhere in the forest. We were even lucky enough to spot and capture this tiny forest musician, which made the experience even more special...

During the day, we also added a bit of fun and balance training to our outdoor activities by setting up a slackline between two trees near the shore...
Walking on the slackline turned out to be both challenging and entertaining. It required full concentration, balance, and patience, but at the same time it was a great way to stay active and playful while enjoying the natural surroundings. With the lake nearby, birds singing in the background, and the forest all around, even such a simple activity became part of the unique outdoor experience...

The afternoon was reserved for another short kayaking session—a slow and relaxing float across the lake. With no rush and nowhere to be, we simply enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, clear weather, and surrounding nature...

This time, we also flew the drone while kayaking, searching for new perspectives of Lake Alnis from above...

Seeing the lake from the air once again was fascinating, but what stood out the most was spotting our small kayak from that height. From above, it looked almost like a tiny seed floating on the vast green water, surrounded by endless forest and open space...

On our last morning at Lake Alnis, I started the day with one final trail run around the lake, enjoying the quiet forest paths and peaceful atmosphere one more time before leaving...
After the run, I took a refreshing dip in the cool lake water - a perfect way to recharge and fully embrace the final moments of the weekend...
Dianka prepared breakfast while I was out running, and afterwards we enjoyed a slow, relaxing morning, taking our time before beginning to pack up and get ready for the journey home. After breakfast, accompanied by a warm cappuccino, we sat on the pier for a while, quietly enjoying the final views of Lake Alnis before heading home...

On our way back, we stopped near StirniĊ³ St. John the Baptist Church, a small rural stone church standing quietly in the countryside...
This is a modest Catholic church dedicated to the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. Built from stone, it has a simple and solid appearance typical of older rural sacred buildings in Lithuania - unpretentious, but very atmospheric...

A perfect end to a three-day nature weekend - slow, simple, and fully immersed in the beauty of the lake, forest, and quiet moments away from everyday life...
