Montenegro. Budva
We arrived in Budva in the morning from Podgorica, just a day after our stunning five-day hike in the Albanian Alps and a restful night in Podgorica. Budva, one of Montenegro’s oldest settlements, has a history stretching back over 2,500 years. Perched on a small peninsula along the Adriatic coast, it is famous for its medieval old town, sandy beaches, and lively cultural scene. Its narrow, winding streets are lined with historic stone buildings, quaint squares, and centuries-old churches, all framed by the sparkling blue sea.
The morning was sunny and warm, perfect for exploring...
From the bus station, we strolled straight into the heart of the old town, wandering through twisting lanes that seemed frozen in time.
The old town streets were calm and far from overcrowded, giving us a chance to soak in the atmosphere at our own pace...
We stopped for a cappuccino on one of the most peaceful streets, enjoying the quiet charm and the soft morning sunlight reflecting off the stone walls.
We’ve been in Budva twice for half-day visits... The second time, we arrived in the afternoon and stayed overnight, giving us a chance to explore more. One of the highlights was visiting Budva Fortress, perched at the edge of the old town. This historic fortress, dating back to the Venetian period, offers panoramic views of the Adriatic and the old town’s rooftops...
Inside, the fortress houses a small library and cultural space, where visitors can browse books, enjoy exhibitions, or simply soak in the atmosphere of this centuries-old bastion overlooking the sea. Walking along its ancient walls, you can almost feel the echoes of the past, from the strategic battles to the daily life of those who once lived within its stone walls...
The view of the old town from the water’s edge was breathtaking - the red-tiled roofs and ancient walls creating a striking contrast with the deep blue Adriatic. We took a refreshing swim and lingered on the shore, watching the town from a different perspective, letting the calm rhythm of the waves wash over us after days of hiking.
Budva’s blend of history, coastal beauty, and vibrant atmosphere made it the perfect next stop on our journey, offering both relaxation and a taste of Montenegro’s rich cultural heritage...
