Greece. Santorini

At the end of our journey through Greece, we flew from Athens to Santorini, a group of islands located in the Aegean Sea with a volcanic origin. The white-washed buildings of Oia and Fira, perched on the island’s cliffs, are iconic images of Greece. The sunset from the bastion in Oia is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful in the world.
  Map of the locations...
From the airplane window, you can clearly see the ring-shaped group of Santorini islands. In ancient times, Santorini was a single volcanic mass called Strongyle (Greek for "round island"). Around 1627 BC, a catastrophic volcanic eruption occurred at the center of the island, accompanied by powerful earthquakes. What remains of the ancient island is the caldera – a visible crescent with a 300-meter-high cliff on the western side and gentle beaches on the eastern side...
Upon landing on the largest island of Santorini, Thera, we took a bus to the town of Fira, where we planned to stay overnight...

Since the volcano is still active, you can see the lava-formed island of Nea Kameni from the town’s waterfront. It continues to grow due to underwater eruptions, the last of which was in 1950...

However, the most beautiful place on the island is the town of Oia, which is regularly served by buses and where we spent most of our time...
Wandering through narrow streets and various passages, you can find the perfect spot for photos. It’s best to plan photoshoots in the morning as the number of tourists increases throughout the day...

The most scenic viewpoint is from the fortress in Oia. From here, you get views of both sides of the slope, where the white-washed buildings are located...

Обійшовши містечко, ми попрямували сходами до моря...
After exploring the town, we headed down the stairs to the sea. Along the stairs, there are donkeys lined up to carry loads and tourists who prefer not to walk up the hill...
At the bottom, there is a picturesque bay with classic Greek cafes – tavernas, where you can enjoy delicious meals...
Our favorite dish in Greece was the classic Greek salad, served with warm bread...
Walking along the trail further from the taverns and outside the bay, we reached a swimming spot...
After experiencing the Aegean Sea, we climbed back up the stairs to the town...
In the evening, we looked forward to the most popular event in Santorini – the sunset. An enormous crowd gathered at the fortress in Oia. Despite the crowd, it was very fitting and fun. We secured spots in the "front row" ...

After enjoying the fantastic sunset, we strolled through the evening streets of Oia and then headed to the bus stop to return to our lodging in Fira...

The next morning, we took a walk through the early morning Fira before taking a bus to the airport for our direct flight to Vilnius...

Thus ended our visit to Greece. We explored three completely different locations and saw the country from various perspectives...
