Lithuania. Vilnius

Vilnius was one of the stops on our Baltic capitals tour. We arrived early in the morning, when the streets were still empty and the sun was hidden behind gray clouds. Walking through the deserted streets, we felt alone with the city...
We entered the city's main street through the only remaining gate of the city wall – the Gate of Dawn:
Although the morning streets of Vilnius were somewhat gloomy due to the weather, we didn’t mind and tried to see a unique, mystical spirit in it...
  St. Theresa's Church...
   The Basilian Gates...

The Roman Catholic Jesuit Church of St. Casimir...
   Town Hall Square...

From the Town Hall Square, we turned towards the narrow and colorful streets of the capital...

Winding through these streets, we arrived at one of the city's main attractions, a monument of Gothic architecture – St. Anne’s Church. The building attained its present form mainly in 1581...
For its authenticity and uniqueness, I like this church the most among others. Small, super Gothic – exactly the qualities that make it special...

The church's bell tower was erected in 1873...
The entrance to St. Anne’s Church was closed, but through the inner courtyard, we could access the Church of St. Francis of Assisi...

From the inner courtyard, there was a beautiful view of the rear part of St. Anne’s Church...
Inside the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, we were alone, not even seeing any nuns, allowing us to fully savor the ascetic spirit of Gothic architecture...

St. Anne’s Church and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in one frame...
Next, we went to the artillery bastion of the city’s defensive wall. From there, we had a view of Castle Hill and Gediminas Tower...
   The artillery bastion itself...

Church of the Holy Mother of Consolation...
Along the way, we encountered these panoramas of the green city...
Continuing our exploration of the city along pre-planned routes, we discovered new views...

  Presidential Palace...
Cathedral Square – the main square of the city, where the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus is located...
Right behind the square, atop Castle Hill, is Gediminas Tower, which was our next destination...
The tower is one of Lithuania's main symbols, often featured on souvenir products...

From the top of the hill, there are beautiful views of the old town...

A view of the "new" city and the valley of the Neris (Vilija) River...
  A view of Diana...
Castle Hill provides a view of the Hill of Three Crosses, which was next on our list of Vilnius "ascents"...

It took us about 25 minutes to go from one hill to the other. The view of Gediminas Tower from the Hill of Three Crosses...
After descending from the hills, we continued our walk through the low-lying part of the city...
The Cathedral of St. Stanislaus in the rays of the sun...
Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, for some reason, I find the entrance to this building very captivating...
   There’s something about these women...
St. Catherine’s Church, one of the most beautiful churches in Vilnius...
   Church of All Saints...
   Vilnius Market Hall...
 A charmingly decorated house...
