Italy. Rome
After Florence, we continued down the "boot" of Italy and arrived in Rome. Everything here was steeped in history and antiquity, which intertwines with the modern flow of time, creating a striking contrast. As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome...Our first encounter with the city began at the Spanish Steps...
Next, we moved on to the legendary Trevi Fountain...
In one of the arcades, we encountered a "sacred" Roman cow...
Gradually, we made our way to the Pantheon, part of which was under restoration...
We were very impressed by the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza Navona...
We then found ourselves in Piazza Venezia, near the Italian Parliament building...
We saved the Colosseum "for dessert." The sun was already setting, giving the most famous monument of Rome a golden hue...
The Arch of Constantine...
When it got dark, we headed to the metro for the Vatican. Afterward, we returned to the Trevi Fountain and walked to the Colosseum, almost the same route we had taken during the day...
Rome at night looks even more grandiose...
Near the Colosseum, on a grassy patch, we had an impromptu picnic with Italian wine and crackers. This spot turned out to be quite popular among Italian couples, who, like us, were enjoying the romantic atmosphere...
We had to take a taxi back to the hotel since the metro stations were already closed and it was about 9 km back "home." We were also quite relaxed after a busy day and a bottle of wine :). It was our most expensive taxi ride, but the evening by the Colosseum was worth it.
The next day, after purchasing a combined ticket for the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, we set out to explore the ancient architectural monuments from the inside...
It was such a pleasure to bypass the enormous queue for Colosseum tickets. How fortunate we were to buy the combined ticket, having to wait in only a small line of a few people at the Forum entrance...
Inside, the Colosseum seemed even larger than from the outside...
We also appreciated the numerous sources of clean drinking water, which were very much needed on hot days...
